There's a boat advertised in Porto Heli in Greece which I may be interested in viewing - I'm not sure yet as I haven't got full information because the broker is out sick. It's an area I don't know at all so, in anticipation of a possible visit there late next week, I'd appreciate any information forumites can share - best way to get there from Athens Airport, somewhere to stay overnight, any local surveyors worth talking to if I get to that stage.

I've anchored for several months at a time in the bay over the summer. From memory it's best to get the hydrofoil from Piraeus. I think it runs all year but maybe a reduced service at this time? If not, then car hire. As for accommodation, hotels line half the bay, but if they are open at this time of year is another thing.....good luck.

Yes I had a boat there for a few years, I used to overnight at Peris Hotel (very nice guy) and then bus from Athens the following day that took about 4 hours if I remember. On the way back I could get to Athens and on a plane same day. There was talk of them building a marina and banning all of us who had our own moorings there, that'll have been in 2016 which is the last time I was there. It was a good base. Can't help with where to stay but one of the hotels is a chain (Best Western?) & may be open or surveyor I'm afraid...

Can you remember the grumpy Dutch or German guy who had the yard behind AB supermarket? He may have surveyor information.

IR,
ages since I last been there, just checked, a couple of hotels are definitely open, so you can stay there overnight, guess one local restaurant will be open, worse comes to worse there's an AB supermarket by the port :p
Now, getting there, I'd advice against renting a car unless you like driving or planning to make a couple of detours for sightseeing. (Epidavros ancient theatre and Nafplion are worth visiting)
Either bus (bit messy as you'll need another bus/metro to the central bus station which is a fugly/messy place), or metro/train from the airport to Pireaus port (change line somewhere in the city centre) and then the boat (check timetables though)
no idea on surveyors, sorry.

Thank you. I'm still trying to get information from the broker before I plan a visit and, frankly, it's like pulling teeth.
PS - I'm late responding because I was banned from the forum for 4 days because of a single use of the F word. I was simply quoting exactly what was said to me some years ago by an Irish customs officer - lucky for him, and indeed most of my fellow Paddies, we don't work for YBW.

It’s been twenty years or more since I bought a boat in Porto Heli. Our preferred route then was taxi from Athens airport to the harbour and Flying Dolphin hydrofoil to Porto Heli ( with several stops enroute). I have no idea if that service still exists. I seem to remember dossing in the airport seats for several hours with two young children. Not sure I’d want to repeat that in my sixties!

Athens airport has had quite a make over, they even have a smallish museum.

I'm not sure if the broker is monitoring YBW but she's sent me a couple of messages in the last half hour
In fairness it seems the delay may be down to the owner not responding in a timely manner.
