Not me but BurgundyBen has a Fairey ? cold moulded mahogany I think but he may give you a steer.

- Iroko - wasn't that used in MTB/MGBs in WW2? if so the Historic Powerboat Trust at Hythe might be a source of all knowledge

Its hot moulded, if you please!

Its hard to make a comparison between a framed and planked hull and a moulded in terms of the maintenance.

Iroko on oak would have been an expensive boat in the 1984 when she was built.

I spose rather than a surveyor you want to get a bloody good old school ship wright to look at it.

She looks gorgeous - loadsa power, aft cabin, outside helm, mmmm - wish I had the money. On the other hand, incessant painting and chasing deck leaks ain't no fun. It's got so much more character than a binliner... you'll forgive it all sorts of misdemeanors every time you look at it. Get a good surveyor, and get out and enjoy it.

Sorry Ben if it's either/or I'm bound to get it wrong, somehow choice of 3 seems easier

I can't tell you anything about the boat you're looking at - never seen it before.
But after some experiences with GRP MoBo, I also began to be attracted by wooden boats, and finally made the move.
Nowadays, I'd rather stop boating than return to plastic.
This is a sea trial of a boat from the same shipyard which built mine - you might be interested in having a look (it does have an Iroko planked hull).
All the best!

I wd have no prob in principle with iroko - bombroof material essentially teak variant. CCscott's boat construction is like new (tho the carpet is nasty imho....) and good for another 100 years easily. But the stuff is v heavy, hence the boat is slow. No partic prob withthat, except you should be ready for a change in pace from the b'liner. Max 14 knots means crusiing at 9-10ish, mebbe?
