Never come across an invertor with a password before......wot make is it?

A 1500watt 240v invertor with 90% efficiency will pull a 12volt battery down at around 140amps/hour or a 24volt battery at around 70 amps/hour.

What he infers is that a 12volt, 280amp domestic battery bank will be down to half charge (effectively flat) in about an hour.

Is that quick or slow?

Cheers

Well.......it could be quick or it could be slow.........
Lets assume your domestic battery supply is two 12volt 110Amp/Hour batteries in parallel giving 220amp hours total capacity but only about 70 amp hours useable.
Say it takes 3minutes to boil a kettle with your invertor running at full capacity (1500watt kettle) that will take about 3 amp/hrs out of the battery. If you only do that a few times a day then its no big deal. But the battery is probably also supplying other demanding things like fridge, lights, tv etc etc so you have to consider everything in combination. Biggest demand on invertor is likely to be microwave/kettle/toaster/washing machine/spin dryer......most of which you wont find on smaller boats cos they just aint got enough batteries/charging facilities.
Just cos its a 1500 watt invertor doesnt mean its going to use 1500 watts whenever its on does it? So if youre only using a laptop or summat for an hour at 150 watts that aint going to drain the batts very quick either.

BUT....if you stick a jam butty making machine on at the same time as a black pudding maker and a treacle mines machinery supply room then yes.....the battery will die in no time flat.

get back to your sheep /forums/images/icons/smile.gif and leave the techie stuff to us!

dont know about passwords, but batteries will go down quick if you use high wattage stuff like fridge, hot plates, heaters and kettles.
Just for lights and tele prob okay, but i wouldnt bother unless you are prepared for the eventual flat battery syndrome.
I uas a 150 watt one jjust or the tele and digi box in the event of no shore power coinciding with Pop Idol
