JURJEN: Thank you very much for your reply re: Interior door sizes, 27/02. I have just found it. Very helpful indeed as I have only now started with the bulkheads etc.

General question. Does anyone have experience of what species of wood to use for building the interior framework for bunks, seating, etc.

Any thoughts gratefully received.

most hardwoods will do the job though ash is a bit prone to turning black. there are many mahogany-style timbers available (genuine mahogany is now rare). i use american white oak from my local hardwood dealer though that is on the basis of aesthetics rather than practicality.

Lots of wood are suitable, as you can se from the number of different types of wood used in fitting out. In the back of papers like exchange and mart, however, and maybe elsewherre on the internet, you can find secondhand wood, which has the advanage of being cheaper and older hence more seasoned and less likely to twist later...
