looking for an insurer who will cover boat on a swinging mooring. Some won't others expect you to haul out for 6 months over winter.

Isha has been on a swinging mooring until last summer when I forked out for a berth in a small harbour alongside a potoon. Bishop Skinner have insured throughout and I keep them informed of any changes. Indeed this winter , for the first time have kept her in the water and thy said that thats ok with no increase in premium.

We have been insured with Haven Knox Johnstone ever since buying our current boat, something like 13 years now. Originally we were on a swinging mooring, then in Holland for a long time and cruising eastwards for the past 5 years. Their rates remained unchanged until we reached the Med, including a cruise to the Baltic. They have now increased a little as we have gone further but we are covered as far as the Black Sea.

They have never asked for a survey, including initially, have never insisted that we change rigging or anything else. I have never claimed but I have seen posts from others who have and I have yet to see a complaint. They don't seem concerned as to whether we winter ashore or afloat.

I have just changed to Yachtline who have covered me for 12 months in commision on a swinging mooring. They did want a lot of info about the exact location of the mooring etc.

They seem like a good company, you sort out all the details by email then they post you the policy book and certificate.

Most insurers will expect the boats to be ashore for the winter on their standard contract. However, there are many moorings they will allow if asked. EG Gosport Boatyard moorings Hardway in Portsmouth.
