Although today is the regarded as the shortest day (time between sunrise and sunset) sunrise will actually be at its latest on Christmas day. And sunset was at its earliest on December 7th.

Someone tries to explain it to me about every other year, but I always nod off before they get to the point - sidereal time comes into it somewhere.

It hardly matters as the Met Office has announced for the second year running that we can forget the rigours of winter and look forward to 'another' barbecue summer.

When will this global warming kick in and give us a proper summer?
