In the "Not many people know that" category.

Someone tries to explain it to me about every other year, but I always nod off before they get to the point - sidereal time comes into it somewhere.

Very good. Now for the big question: why?

It's something to do with the earth not rotating EXACTLY on its axis. It has a bit of a wobble on {bit like a kid's spinning top}

I remember seeing a graphical representation of the thing, which looked like a funny sort of "8" shape on it's side, where one of the "loops" of the 8 was very much bigger that the other. Bu99ered if I can find it now though, when it would have explained the whole thing perfectly.

:confused:

Although today is the regarded as the shortest day (time between sunrise and sunset) sunrise will actually be at its latest on Christmas day. And sunset was at its earliest on December 7th.

It hardly matters as the Met Office has announced for the second year running that we can forget the rigours of winter and look forward to 'another' barbecue summer.

Mind you, one year they will guess correctly and one must be due soon as the last barbecue summer I can recall was 1976.

When will this global warming kick in and give us a proper summer?
