"In build", sort of, pics of Sq58 - long/lots pics

Re: \"In build\", sort of, pics of Sq58 - long/lots pics

Thanks for the pics, jfm. Some really worthwile and thoughtful mods although the lights are a bit bling. Could be useful for spotting jellies prior to a midnight skinny dipping session though. Still waiting for an answer to benjenbav's point re gold fittings /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Looking at the pics I can really see why you went for another Sq58 rather than Sq55. 58 seems much bigger and breathes better to use the MBY Marsh terminology

She looks very nice JFM and misses out on nowt against the 55 imo.

I see you went for the Raymarine Sat TV with 35cm dish. We have similar except 45cm dish for northern sat footprint.

The system has been very reliable and tracks very well even with me messing about at the helm while the kids try to look.

I hadn't noticed the Sq58 anchor arrangement before - I assume you can see the anchor when docking it into it's holder - sorry if stupid question. Ours nearly always comes up wrong way rouns so I get MrsSV to drive on tick over and I drop the hook to the surface of the water to spin it arrount the correct way and then a sharpish lift into the holder.

I do like the interior but erm, I am still a lover of the red glossy cherry I have seen on a 68 - lovely /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Not sure about the underwater lights but it's good to see someone give RR a run for his money /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

So when are you taking her to SoF and do we assume you are keeping the name Braveheart?

You need a product called a "Twist". It turns the anchor the right way round for you. You just need to check there is enough room between the end of the anchor stem and the windlass gypsy, when the anchor is fully stowed. If so, your problems are over (well your anchor stowage problems anyway /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif).

Re: \"In build\", sort of, pics of Sq58 - long/lots pics

Well, she misses a few things comp w Sq55 but overall/on balance I'm 100% convinced the 58 is better for me. Better fly (than anything this side of 70foot), utility room, internal stairs

Yes I got the Ray37 sat TV. It wont be as strong signal as the 45 but I dont care. Nick H (who is literally my neighbour in Antibes) has the 37cm Tracvision and his works fine, so I know it will work. But in any case it is 8kg whereas the bigger one is >20kg. I want it for aesthetic reasons on the s/s gantry on my mast and in big seas I prefer the idea of less weight. I never watch TV anyway, it is very much an occasional use thing and EBY gave me a once-only very good deal on Raymarine purchase as part of my deal so I thought what the hell and got it. To be honest I can't even be bothered to install the sodding thing but I suppose I will, just to shift the big box it is sitting in.

No, anchor is invis to helmsman. I mark the chain in paint so i know when it is about to dock. If you wind it in slowly it is set up always to fall over the right way up, and it does indeed always come in the right way up, without fail. Due to the geometry of the rollers i think. You dont need Nicks bendy link, though those things do work perfectly well too. On the Sq 58 you hear it clunk in and know when to stop winching. It all works fine. It's good to have a fordeck person though in case you have a ball of weed, cos you can't see that from the helm. There are pros and cons to the arrangement, but one nice thing about the 58 is the nice clear flat foredeck area

She's on a ship to SoF middle of March and yes I'm planning to keep the name. Only cos i have 8 chocolate brown bathrobes and lots crew uniforms embroidered with it and I'm too skint to get new ones :-)

Those u/w lights will grow on you. I can see you and Deleted User will get a set soon enough. I plan to use them on subtle blue mode most of the time, not full bling-tastic :-)

But where can you get it from? Somebody posted THIS link a while back and it's mentioned again in this month's MBM but I've sent them 2 e-mails without any reply. Do you know any other suppliers?

We suffer from the same problem as SV in that the anchor always seems to come up the wrong way. I find that motoring astern always turns it the right way. Works for Delta and Bruce hooks anyway

Sell it on the cheap to another deserving forumite /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I bought mine from Superyacht Doc in Southampton ( web page ), but i've got an idea they're now distributed as a Plastimo product, or maybe Plastimo copied them, or maybe i've got that completely wrong.
