Not boaty but warrants mention - hope it is not a leg pull

Sarah Kennedy was on about this proposed car tax scheme on the Radio 2 - apparently there is only one month left to register your objection to the 'Pay as you go' road tax. The petition is on the 10 Downing St website but they didn't tell anybody about it. Therefore at the time of Sarah's comments only 250,000 people had signed it so far and 750,000 signatures are required to stop them introducing it.

This is from the 10 Downing Street website.

Once you've given your details (you don't have to give your full address, just house number and postcode will do), they will send you an email with
a link in it. Once you click on that link, you'll have signed the petition.

Democracy in action?

The government's proposal to introduce road pricing will mean you having
to purchase a tracking device for your car and paying a monthly bill to use it. The tracking device will cost about £200 and in a recent study by the BBC, the lowest monthly bill was £28 for a rural florist and £194 for a delivery driver. A non working mother who used the car to take the kids to school paid £86 in one month.
On top of this massive increase in tax, you will be tracked. Somebody will know where you are at all times. They will also know how fast you have been going, so even if you accidentally creep over a speed limit in time you can probably expect a Notice of Intended Prosecution with your monthly bill.
If you care about our freedom and stopping the constant bashing of the car driver, please sign the petition on No 10's new website (link below) and
pass this on to as many people as possible.

Doesn't appear to be a leg pull - at least the petition isn't, though not sure about a number of signatures required to stop the measure (if indeed its really being proposed in the terms mentioned here) Whatever - have signed it, and so have over 1 million others so far.

You realise that you have just given them an idea!
A short story - in the eighties - a farmer repaired his old water-wheel at considerable cost - he cleared and repaired the old leet that allowed some water to run from the river to his wheel. Naturally he was proud of it and showed it to friends. Next the water board sent him a bill - explanation - he was using their water from the river and must pay for it! After it went over his wheel the water returned into the river. He stopped use of the wheel.

I just find it totally unbelievable. Isn't the UK being taxed enough with already heavy duty being imposed on the motorist? Where is all this revenue going because I think we know where it is NOT going?

Apart from Road Tax, the Congestion Charge was the next step in additional taxes. (Let's not even mention tax on fuel.) That's now sort of accepted and what happens, the Captive Area for the charge is being increased. Tolls on motorways starting to be introduced. Now this.

It ain't going to stop. It WILL go from bad to worse and the motorists is going to be screwed.

I might live in Spain, but I signed the petition along with the 999,999 other people.

Yours, traumatised of Torrevieja

He should have sent them an invoice for a bit more than their's............for oxygenation of their water!

Afterall, by the time the water had done with all that tumbling and swirling it would bound to be richer in oxygen than when it left the river? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Well if the million or so people who signed this get off their backsides and go and vote at the next election.............?

I am quite certain that the Pig is fuelled up, and ready to fly! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Vote for who exactly???

& various govt ministers said it;s nonsense and they already plan to totally ignore it.

So much for them being the representatives of the electorate!!

Caught the tail end of a bit on the radio the other day, camara regs are being altered. Under the new system they can install a camara if they think there could be an accident, no longer does it need to be a black spot.
What next?????????????????.

Brian

I signed the petition as I think they will use the system to screw more revenue out of the motorist yet again. Most of us drive because of limited or no other practical option.

Speed cameras are a different issue, you dont have to break the limit.

If I accidentilly speed and get caught Ill whinge like everyone else but it would be my fault.

Almost 1100000 and counting up at about 50 a minute at the moment.

I've signed it but the problem is that it is only a matter of time before every vehicle is tracked every minute of its life from showroom to scrapyard. Mark my words.

Won't be long before they have a camera at every motorway & service area entry & exit.
Easy for them to calculate average speed over your journey, more than 70? Expect a bill in the post

I tried to sign the petition even got a message saying they had sent me an email so I could confirm - never received the email.

Same thing happened when I tried to sign up on the speed camaras. Seems to me that HMG don't want my opinion.

Peter.

its not HMG's fault. Your ISP is probably 'anti spamming' mail and not informing you of what is being trashed. This is a common problem with some cheap and some not-so-cheap ISP's. The anti-spam software they use is at fault.

Try to talk to someone about it and you get an offshore telecentre which sends an internal email to 'prove your email is working' all very frustrating. They dont get the point that its mail from certain servers that gets dropped. When you finally beat some sense into them they ask you for sample headers of the lost mails!

I operate a Google gmail account which shitcans all the spam but allows me to examine it if I want. Very occasionally I find a valid mail in the bin. I have had friends copy a mail to my regular account and the Gmail account simultaneously and only the gmail account gets it.

Government have announced that after 1 million signatures they are scrapping the plans. Wonder what they will use to clobber us with next? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
