If I won the lottery...

I spent a few minutes yesterday on the pontoon at the Berthon marina, looking at the Fife 15 metre “Mariquita”.

The pedant in me feels obliged to point out that Mariquita is one of the 19m class.

She is a real beauty, and as you say has been lovingly pampered.

Thank you! I beg her pardon! I can remember her as a houseboat at Pin Mill and I have seen a picture of her as a houseboat occupying the whole of the Ferry Dock at Woodbridge. Her rebirth is a wonderful thing.

German Frers. Swan 82 RS. I was wrong: he was 95 when he ordered her. She was his eighth boat.

There is a potential clash in the 60' to 90' range : too big to sail without a crew and too small to have a sense of separation of guest and crew space.

Crew is indeed an issue when dreaming of the lottery win boat. Recruitment problems. Personnel management issues. In effect, sharing one’s house with staff. I’m not sure I want all that no matter how much money I had. Even worse, the sight of one of those beautiful super yachts racing with decks covered in a dozen or more crew fills me with a big yuk. No, I don’t want to live in a commune.

Firstly, do NOT choose big or fast. There always be a bigger, better, faster yacht.

If I were to be half serious, then something which has real entertaining space, the ability to sail the channel, Med or further in complete safety and comfort, and also genuinely short or two handed, I would chose the Discovery 58. Not too big, not too small, and well designed for a specific purpose.

But to be more indulgent, it would have to be a Classen / Hoek Classic 90. Utterly beautiful, and a 'modern' J-class lookalike. 90ft is enough to be with or without crew, with plenty of space to share with friends, and also turn all the heads in either the Riviera or the Solent.

There was an sae inside :encouragement:

Oh, I didn’t notice that... the reason I didn’t reply was that I’d already spent the money on a half of lager and a packet of
Crisps, So couldn’t afford the stamp.
