Idiots guide to SSB any suggestions

I have one on the boat Furuno but need an idiots guide on how to use it, any suggestions. Yes I can switch it on and tune it in but I need some explanation on A3J and A3H or what ever they are. Thanks

go to 'miscellaneous' and see 'Marine SSB Single Sideband Simplified PDF'.

A3J is single side band (most weather fax, TTY, and general chatter), A3H is for AM (normal brodcast like BBC world sevice).

You must of course get some qualifications before transmitting, but not for listening.

I found Mike Harris' book "A Guide to Small Boat Radio" ,very informative and in fact he
has recently published a newer version.
You may be able to download a handbook from the Furuno website, Icom offer this service for their radios.
