Interestingly the MCA press release said that the ferry was aground on a sandbank, while the BBC said it was on ROCKS! Who would you believe?

The MCA are bound to (try) to tell the truth whereas the BBC are only bound by what sounds better.
MCA version:
In the extreme weather conditions the master allowed the ferry to dift onto a local sand bank in Loch Ryan to protect both vessel and passengers. The passengers are currently being given free food and drink courtesy of P & O and the boat is expected to be re-floated on the next high water without any further problems.
BBC version:
One of P & O's oldest ferries was last night in considerable trouble after running aground on rocks in Scotland. It is not curtain whether this old vessel can withstand the battering it may receive from the wind and waves. With approximately 120 starving passengers aboard loved ones are now starting to line the port of Cairnryan but can only stand a watch helplessly as this tragic event unfolds before the worlds eyes. We have it on good authority that the coastguard has asked Dover Lifeboat to stand bye in case it's needed in any rescue attempt. As our reporter stated earlier she can see 2 foot high waves smashing against the side of the boat. Earier we were able to interview Mrs Mc Duff the pregnant wife of the ships stoker, in the interview she stated that unless he hurried up and got ashore his haggis and tatties tea would be spoiled.
So folks there you have it drama of the first order all reported here first?
