I should wait.!... I should wait..?.. but I don\'t want to!!

OK.. even though I haven't had my current boat that long I am just starting to consider a change. I have very fixed views of what I need, being an ex raggie side decks and semi displacement are a must. Called the people I bought my current boat from as I would certainly like to deal with them again, I thought they were excellent (Dickies in Brighton) and asked them to look out for a Beneteau Anatares 760. Alas they don't have any...no problem I thought as I'm in no hurry so can wait.... However they do have a new Antares 8, Do I want to know what deal they would do on that....???? stupid question really, of course I do. Effectively been offered storming deal where upon price to change just £14k more than if I were to find a 2005 760....been offered more in part ex for my boat than I paid them a year ago.... And to make matters worse their stock boat is fully loaded with all the extra's I want.

I wish I hadn't bloody asked, I can't really afford it... but now feel I can't not! Haven't done anything yet....I don't believe the deal I have been offered will ever be better than this..... or will it?

That is what Gordon Brown used to tell us - and look where we all ended up!

Ok - does your current boat fit your needs? Yes? stick with it ... No? then you need to start considering the alternatives ...

I like it, the seating in the cockpit makes it a bit more cross-over fishing/cruising, rather than just a fishing boat.

So long as "I can't really afford it" doesn't mean it'll put you in crippling debt, then go for it!

Re: I should wait.!... I should wait..?.. but I don\'t want to!!

its a personal and financial choice, I had a "jaws" attitude, I had three boats in quick succession, then a long break with no boat, I might be wrong, but go for as small as you can accommodate not as large, in the main, all costs associated to boat go up by the metre including depreciation. They may be giving more for your old boat because they have more customers for that type of boat than their new one.

Well, I have to say it looks very nice. My view on these things is "go for it", but only you can tell is it will stretch your finances too far. Think what you can do without to make it affordable, and if life is not going to become too austere, well, you know the rest.......

Let us know when you will take delivery!!

....that's the trouble, its a bit small, its camping on water. We have a sea toilet but its under the bunk, we have enough sleeping room for 2, but there's three of us....

Go and have a look at it but leave your cheque book at home....

The fact is that you're probably going to change up sooner or later and now is as good a time as any to screw a deal out of Dickies. Next year, your existing boat will be worth less and Dickies might not be so keen on doing a deal. If you can afford it, then just do it, I say

I apologise for being boring but if you can not make your mind up during this heat wave then walk away.

It is too easy to enjoy your boat for a few sunny weekends and mistake these happy memories for your life, in less than 3 months you could be sat on it in the cold rain wishing you had not got such a commitment and you were elsewhere.

Wait another year or two until it is within easy reach /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

sell your current one and get a sail boat - you can afford to go much further on one of them!!

Seriously - don't forget about the increased running costs too - could you spend a few weekends and the odd week on the current one then jet off to somewhere hot with the difference between this one and what you'd end up spending on the next?

Very very tempting. Love my 760 but that looks the business.

Hi Bob, really interested in hearing from someone with a 760. Can I ask, assuming your boat has the 200hp engine (volvo I assume) what is your cruising speed and maximum speed. Beneteau are quoting for the 8, with a 200hp Nanni 13.7 knots cruising and just under 21 flat out... seemed just a touch low, I would have thought it would have cruised at 16knts?

any issues you have had with your 760 that might put me off a Antares 8?

Many thanks

Then clearly you're paying too much for the new one.

No such thing as something for nothing, they're funding the extra on yours from somewhere...
