For £25 they dont even laminated it now, just flimsy paper with faded ink, i could photoshopped a better product better myself.
Disgusted of Tunbridge Wells

They could at least have printed it in blue! ;)

I thought there was a minimum LOA of 5 or 6 metres. I dimly recall I was going to take a dinghy or sea kayak to France ages ago, wanted to it to be registered, and thought I'd have to rig a bowsprit or something to bring it up to the minimum registrable length.

It would be so much easier for everyone to register on Part 1 instead of have to stump up £25 every five years :p

Why would one want to do that? Survey is costly and renewal is £75 every 5 years, plus many boats do not have the documented history to meet the registration requirements.

Registration is not compulsory and only required if you take the boat into international waters and visit another state.

So, neither easier nor cheaper.

Which also expires every five years...

BUT didnt used to, until they wanted "to keep their records up to date", (they were always up to date) & realise that they had a "cash cow" readily available.
My previous boat is Part 1 & i just paid a "one off "fee to change ownership.

My last boat was registered under part I from new in 2005 and back then the certificate was valid for 5 years only so the change must have happened more than 13 years ago

Sorry. Humour. See smiley

I think I may just complain.

I did complain and, give them their due, they replied fairly quickly...

"Thank you for your feedback. I’m sorry that you are disappointed with the certificate. I will certainly forward your concerns.

We are currently working towards digitalisation and this is a first (albeit) small step towards electronic documentation.

We take on board your comments regarding the quality of the paper/print and are looking at upgrading the quality of paper used for our certificates. In the meantime please feel free to laminate the document yourself."

Yes, thanks for that...
