Re: fireman, insulting + link

Having read that article, if true and I'm sure it is, 2 days on six off! F...k em' 31k a year for a senior foireman! f...k em' Sack the lot, especially the senior officers and re-organise the lot! I was thinking about real firemen, not this lot of chancers. I take it all back apologise profusely and hereby eat a large lump of humble pie! Sack cloth and ashes anybody! Not the tar and feathers again!

Re: And so say all of us

If you can't stand the heat you shouldn't have joined. If a truly independant body has assessed the salary ( and let's not forget the associated 'benefits' packages), then both sides should accept and get on with business. Wouldn't it be nice if we could all have 11% in the next 2 years???

Re: Grasping at Hispano-Suizas

Ok, I am referring to period prior to ascendancy of A.Hitler in mid thirties, before which it was Bugattis and Bentleys and Nuvolari on the track, and even after that they changed the rules to favour rear-engine loonie v16 autounions and then mercs (which were still fastest when driven by brits) altho i digress.

And anyway, i meant in comparison with the post war production cars from other countries, not in comparison with the prewar offerings of germany. Bugger. You've got me on to cars again

Re: Grasping at Hispano-Suizas

I know what you meant! and agree wioth you, but thats no fun is it, agreeing!!

But successive bad management, bad work pratices, bad labour relations, restrictive pratices, demarcation disputes (remember those) lack of investment in new machinery etc. etc. led to the collapse of any decent car, motorbike or shipbuilding, aircraft, in fact just about every engineering industry we were ever had or were likely to have. What the bluidy hell were we doing to ourselves! We had the engineers and the qualified workforce, where did we go wrong?

unmentionable

ah well, see, all the brits (well all the ones i know) iof told to go and shoot people would just shoot a bit, feel bad, sit in the pub, and then lie and say they had shot people as instructed, even when they hadn't. I would. So, I would have been shot.

Whereas germans, knock knock on the door, take down the full names, age, hair colour and everything, wait for them to pack everything nicely and THEN shootem. Which shows much better attention to detail really, you have to admit?

Hence, decent cars and engineering in general. But crap jokes, food and telly.

Re: Ah. Manchester United Example

your argument is arse about face fromm what it was

if they leave because they aren't valued
this goes against your rampant market theory based on money. ecpected pay = happiness and stability. what about beiong paid what they are worth. surely they will only leave if they can make more money elsewhere you argue ( i think. iam about to disapear up me own arssehole soon so this will be my last post on this)

now you say it is cos they donot feel treasured and they will leave, leaving eejits behind.
I reckon it is still about the money too. even if they are valued donot pay your superstars enough and they will leave. so it is balance. which we both knew all along.

i agree about ther firing it should happen but does not. but asd there are tosspots in every industry i reckon macroecnomically it evens out)
are you agreeing with me now?
why has it gone dark in here?
why is my head sore

sorry am doing this whilst trying to do a valuation. well i say that i know the value, i am trying to make the figures stack up.

can we end this now i am tired.

Come on brain.get this over and i can go back to killing you with beer

The Sons of Nippon

In the 60's I invariable turned up late and knackered for dates. this is because all the good looking women lived in one town and I lived in another. I had a motorbike - well several - Ariel 350, Norton Dominator, Ariel square 4 etc. they used to conk with a regularity that had to be experienced to be believed. On the rare occassions when I did get there on time, I resembled a grease monkey as petrol and oil seemed to seep from various places onto my hands and clothing. All the girls I fancied preferred Old Spice - and later, Aramis to Castrol R and Fina or Cleveland Discol petrol and this goes some way to explaining my overlong period of virginity.
Along came the impeccable Sons of Nippon, bringing with them bikes that started, ran and didn't leak. We began to buy them and the British Bike industry went into final phase dive mode.
Because we are who we are, we didn't wise up to this and continued with our shoddy work practices, lack of quality systems and lamentable labour relations until finally we bolloxed our car industry as well. We then missed the trick with white goods, computers and almost every other damn thing that needs making. Now we have architects trained on lego with the artistic vision that our cat would be ashamed of, catchpenny shopping malls, bastards phoning about double glazing and new kitchens and finally a blasted bank that values its British roots so much it has set up a call centre in Bombay. The job, me hearties, is well and truly goosed.
