Hull - Zeebrugge ferry ending

We sailed on one the last trips on "Pride of Bilbao" from Portsmouth to Bilbao in April 2010. P&O withdrew from the route claiming it was uneconomical. Along came the French and have been operating it ever since, and also to Santander. All French crew on 1:1 rotation - not a cheap option like some ferries?

Ah well yes quite so, the now expected fall in demand, or maybe just some Pen Pushers calculations have resulted in at least 4 Cruise Ships at anchor off our South Devon Coats at the moment; one a QMary type; been there for a couple months now; I have suggested that they may be awaiting clearance to come inshore to be scuttled then used as Wave Breakers plus Dive or Angling attractions; so after the Virus frighteners we can rejuvinate our Tourist activity with fresh new attractions; after all I cannot imagine that Cruise Liners will be attractive with the required social distancing in future ?

Why venture abroad these days, when ones return date is questionable and terribly uncertain; one can experience the very best of Diving and Angling at home ?

Already happening, the local dive and fishing charter boats in Weymouth are doing evening sunset cruises around the cruise ships for a bit of site seeing.

Hi Pete yes our local Trip boats, Teignmouth, Brixham and Paignton, are doing that as well, 'Come aboard and see close quarters the QM' or similar, so its not all bad for business then, another attraction is on offer, might soon see it advertised as 'see the last of those cruise liners' before them scuttled ?
Cripes just maybe them Liners can become the modern version of 'Pirate Radio Ships', or 'Brothels afloat' or some such similar, or even illegal Imigrants catered for ?

The Turkish shipbreaking industry is getting busy with cruise ships, it seems: five in and three awaiting according to this article, from which

I'm mildly surprised that the Home Secretary hasn't yet suggested using them for refugees, as she seems to be working her way through every other impractical and inhumane option. Perhaps "Antarctica" is next on the list, or "Cryosuspension".

There used to be a photo aboard of her leaving you Bilbao and I don’t know what the weather conditions were but all you can see is white water breaking over the bridge deck, I believe she was 11 decks high

we had a couple of interesting crossings!

On one there was an elderly lady riding on those electric scooters around generally being a pain crashing into people and things. Until the weather deteriorated and she was one minute doing 2 miles an hour uphill in the next 20 downhill! We didn’t see her again after she took out one of the tables in the restaurant.

Saw a couple of cruise ships last week operating in the Ionian, German and Italian I think.

So you weren't an aficionado of the Hamburg/ Harwich ferry. I was in Soltau.
Harwich to Pickering didn’t look like a good journey and from Hull I could be home inside an hour at that time in the morning and didn’t have to leave home to get back until late afternoon. My not then wife who was teaching in Germany did it once but didn’t like it.
