Hudl charging

Is it a HUDL 1 or HUDL 2?

Only charging problems I remember with original HUDL were with touchscreen during charging with different chargers. I think that was due to poor earthing on some chargers.

Plenty of issues reported with HUDL 2 and advice online. Check there and might also be worth trying a different charger.

I seem to remember that both HUDLs use a 2A charger but original HUDL didn't need as much power. I think that I managed to charge in car but same charger couldn't cope with HUDL2.

Battery on my HUDL 2 suddenly started to run down very quickly a few weeks after the lollipop upgrade. It also started to stutter on audio when playing video. I think that I may have sorted out both problems but need to monitor battery life for a few more days. However, I've been lucky enough to avoid the widely reported re-charging problems so far.

I had a similar problem with my Hudl2 after the OS upgrade and this is their response:

To resolve your issue, I would recommend resetting your hudl.

First plug your hudl in to the mains charger.

Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.

This will reset the Android operating system without affecting any of your files or settings.

If this doesn't resolve the issue you will need to try a force reboot.

When your device is powered off, press and hold the power and volume up buttons for 45 seconds.

You should then see the Android logo followed by the Android system recovery screen, you can navigate the list using the volume up and down buttons, use the power to select.

Navigate to "Reboot system now"

Your device should reboot and charge normally.

If the steps above did not resolve your issue, repeat the steps without being plugged in to the mains.

Have you changed the usb cable? Ebayesque cables lose too much voltage, especially if lengthy. I splashed out on a £2 'quality' cable for my hudl 2 and "insufficient power to charge device" went away.

Not unheard of for micro USB Sockets to break connections internally

The micro USB socket on my HUDL2 became damaged, probably because of me trying to plug in a charger in the dark (SWMBO asleep). The repair at a local phone repairer cost £35.

I've had issues with several cables that don't seem to allow the full charge to pass, or send phone of tablet into some kind of "I'm connected to a computer, so I'll only take a tiny bit of current" mode. Since than, for charging purposes, (USB outlets built into 13A sockets at home & dedicated USB charging socket on boat) I use cable from Porta Pow. I don't know the exact details, but they seem not to have the data connectors hooked up, so my hungry gadgets slurp away to their hearts' content.

my wife's hudl won't charge properly with chargers that work with everything else. the socket is loose but if you wiggle the plug until charging is shown and then support it in the wiggled position it charges fine - certaily not worth paying for a repair

My hudl refuses to charge. The official hudl charger still charges my phone but when plugged into the tablet......nil, zilch, Nada.
What to do?

Doesa the charging cable seem to maintain friction till fully plugged in. I have founr the Hudl leads to be not the best especially those thich unwieldy leads supplied with the Hudle 2 I find I get a better connection the Belkin leads and even the flat coloured leads Tesco sell.

There were problems with the Hudl 1 charging port and some users reported having them replaced.

I thought it would be as well to see what the supplier had to suggest so I took my Hudl back to Tescos. The very helpful staff at the help desk told me that they were no longer selling or repairing them and offered me a refund.
The reason was that they have had numerous returns due to the poor build quality. This leaves me the problem of what to replace it with. Must be able to run my apps from Google store including Navionics and available from Tesco. Nexus and Lenovo are names I have heard suggested but what of a windows tablet - will they run apps?
