Looking for advice on the methods of obtaining a nice subtle finish on interior Oak on a yacht, have thought of several coats of oil followed by a couple of coats of hard wax ! Any ideas, is this good or bad or what? Don't want high gloss , and the oak needs good protection from moisture incursion as the craft is steel.

Silvatane

Silvatane by Trimetal is the answer. It needs several coats, but (!!!!!) no sanding in between the coats. We have it on our Nicholson, it gives a beautiful eggshelll finish, is easy to applty and protects like any varnish would. Like you, we don't want a high gloss.

cheers

sp115 clear epoxy laminating system will give it the protection that a wooden deck would have , you can get it from fibre glass suppliers , its hard to apply , also oiling the wood gives a nice finish and easy to do , but if i build anything in oak it gets waxed .
