Stopped for lunch a few weeks back outside Peros Guirec and dropped the hook and went ashore for lunch.

When I picked the anchor I couldn't believe that the chain had wrapped around like this. Good job it wasn't windy as I imagine it was like this on the sea bed.

Perhaps an argument for reversing a bit when you let the chain out?

OK there is a pic, I loaded it into a gallery.

When I look at it it says its waiting approval by a moderator.

Sort of going to kill any threads with pics in eh?

I set my anchor by hand

The advantage of setting your anchor by hand is that you feel it touch the bottom & can hold it there until it starts to drift back & then lay out the chain along the sea bed until you have the previously calculated correct length deployed. the simply snub on windlass or deck cleat to arrest the drift. If all is correct, the chain will go bar tight & boat will stop as anchor digs in, then the boat will "bounce" forward to settle in place. Very simple & never failed me yet and perfectly simple to do, even as a singlehander.

I agree with you there, nothing more satisfying than feeling the thud of the anchor making touchdown, then just waiting a few seconds before you start laying chain down as the boat drifts back...always worked for me.... (touching wood!)
