How much should I pay to get my boat valeted?

Because I don't visit my boat as often as I would like, I get a local company to valet it on a regular basis but I'm having an argument with them over costs. Anyone know what a typical interior/exterior valet costs for a 15m boat either in the UK or the Med?

I recently had a quote from the resident valeters at EM, they are charging £15/ft which includes cleaning everything both inside and out .... they do offer another service which is a regular clean the outside once a month, this I was told would be something like £9/ft not sure how that compares?

I got the valeters at Essex Marina to polish my boat when it was there, and also to remove the old name from the side as we were changing it. They employed two brain dead morons to do it who removed the name with screwdrivers and left loads of gouges in the gel coat.

In fairness to the company they were mortified, and they paid for a professional gel coat repairer to fix it, but i'd like to think they choose their staff a bit more carefully now.

If you have in mind a couple of aged retainers carefully polishing the brightwork, cleaning the heads, buffing up the walnut trim and lovingly removing all traces of oil from the engine room whilst muttering "Ah, bootiful,bootiful..."...you are going to be sorely disappointed....

You'll pay about £400-500 for internal and external valet for a 30ft sports cruiser. It is likely to be carried out by youffs who don't give a damn......

i am a car valeter and occasionally do boats. if its just a simple outside gel coat polish and an interior clean and shampoo carpets and upholstery then around £ 15 per foot.

disclaimer I am not touting for work as im on holiday for a few weeks and doing nothing.

I got a quote from a company based in Marina 92, Barcelona, for €22/sq metre for a wash, polish and brigtwork treatment.....not sure how they were planning to measure or exactly what that included as they were working on a yacht close to ours and promised to pop back and talk in more detail, but didn't!! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

My valeters are now charging me about €23/ft which I guess is the same ball park so maybe they are'nt ripping me off

I am led to believe that at a presentation at OV last Thursday PM a new Valet Service company was launched, in the brochure I understand a fortnightly wash and stocking fridge with Eggs & Bacon when required, came in at .......... Annual Charge for 43'.......£7000.

Mike - I got quoted 900e and 600e for someone to completely cut back and wax my boat. I thought it expensive. I pay around 18E and hour for general cleaning, and we have got them down to around 3 or 4 hours a month.

I will probably pay them in the end, which is a shame as if I was in the UK I would do it myself. I tried the flybridge but even on a cloudy day by hand I was knackered before I had done the dash /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

My common constant for boat maintenance/repairs etc has always been about £1,000 per job, which equates to about €1,450 /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I'll be back in touch with them before I go back out to Barca as "Freya" is on the market, and I need her to look her best...I'll let you know what they say.

A typical complete wash after returning from a cruise costs me a dinner at a good restaurant, 'cause swmbo refuses to cook after completing the job...

When you say Valet mike do I assume you mean complete external wash not polish of the Gel coat?

We do "guardienage" which is a fancy french word for boat care. Two washes per month plus daily checks of warps fenders (accounting for the weather) plus run up engines once a month about €120 PM. About €8.50 per metre. We do a Sealine 51 for that price.

Internal clean depends but probably about 6 hours at €20 PH

Compund or compound and polish a different animal price on sight of vessel.

forumite glenndraper knows our boat cleaner and rates him highly.

We paid E1,600 for ...
lift out, hull wash, touch up antifoul, bow & stern thruster anodes, lift in, full wash polish of topsides/superstructure/ flybridge/cockpit, all stainless steel polished, cockpit/platform teak wash and seal.

It costs us around €1000 (ie £680) for a hull and superstructure wash and polish, including exterior and interior valet (38ft)

you need to get the boat down to Greece...... around 60 Euros for in and out complete clean! If you want the bilges and engine room degreased and cleaned as well, then another 50'ish Euro!
