Re: the first of a long list of boaty cock ups

Ooh
I wasn't covered for sea only lakes and certain classes of rivers
Herne Bay had the disaster where some young people died did it not?
Used to do a bit of sea work around the overfalls near where we sail in anglesey but that was just me and a few mates not taking kids out.
I can still eskimo roll without a paddle.
Am getting re certificated for the local scout troop hopefully.
can't wait to go up to the Lakes again.

Beer! Now there's a temporary solution.

Dare I admit to being a closet raggie in distant past? Well here goes.

Bit of sailing at school
11 years Electronic Off in MN
started working ashore in Plymouth, half share in Wayfarer dinghy,
Wanted to go faster, Fireball Dinghy.
Moved to Portsmouth, got married no boat for three years.
Moved to Lancs, wife didn't like water with lumps on,
Norman 20 with 10hp honda, rebuilt from almost bare hull
Buckingham 22 with 10hp honda, the worst steering boat I have ever owned (eyes off canal for 10 seconds and boat has turned 90 degrees! Heading straight for bank)
1988 Freeman 24 initially with Sea Panther, self marinised and fitted Ford XLD416 (best steering boat I've ever owned, go below put kettle on, back up to helm and still running straight).
1989 Got divorced, cleaned out (usual story) so the Freeman lasted 10 years, but now seagoing on Irish Sea
Jan 1998 Skibsplast 700 DHT with 140 Yanmar, 28kts of superb fun for 4 years, now for sale.
July 2002 - New Beneteau Antares 760, the TAMD41P has not broken yet, but there is still 2 years warranty to go. Glad I paid the extra £3k for a Sleipner bowthruster, makes locks and turning in boats length a joy.
Aug 2002 - Wondering what on earth I am doing on an oil rig off Malabo 3000 miles from new boat! Just remembered - paying for it!
Sep 2002 - Going home next week to new boat and to Soton Boat Show on Friday if anyone else is going that day.
