Hi,

I want to clean my mast and rigging this weekend.
I had thought of using a warm soapy wash but I've read that dish washing detergent contains chemicals that could cause damage.

Are there any recommendations ?
I've got 'turtle' car shampoo !

thanks,
mark

I've used plain water with perhaps a little boat wash. Wait 'till dry and then clean with white spirit and a clean cloth.

Subsequently I have put on wax polish with success, but this year tried Blakes Mast Care which is a sort of oil based liquid. Need to dry this stuff off after application to avoid getting over your sails. Hopefully the rain won't wash it off, but I've yet to see.

Heard of others applying WD40 with success.

Wash spars with warm soapy water, dry off then wax with any car/boat wax. As for rigging if stainles give a good clean with warm water and a Brillo pad to remove any surface rust then hose with fresh watr. DO NOT put any oil/WD40 etc as this will ruin sails during the rest of season.
