Hi there, new to this forum. Found some great info and advice. Not much time to chat now, but nice to be registered. Check in again soon :)

Well, welcome to you both from a fellow learner.

It often seems to me that those who are so generous with their advice and knowledge here don't get anything like enough recognition. I have learnt, and still learn a lot here and am very grateful.

Cheers!

Mike

Welcome

Just remember that the secret to have a sensible discussion about anchors is to have it withon a discussion about what colour ensign your boat should have.

Lots of good advice available, you just have the problem of discernment from the occasionally completely sensible sounding twaddle! ;). Please see my remarks in para 2.

Mike,

we're all learners no matter how long one may have sailed; the day I stop learning, put me in my box !

If I've learned any great secret, it's that it's supposed to be fun; it's quite easy to turn sailing into an endurance test, maybe not doing so is a sign of experience.

Though I suppose the odd hard trip when young is a good grounding as in ' I'll not be doing that again ! ...

Welcome, both.

The first thing everyone should learn is that everyone has an opinion and everyone is entitled to that opinion. Advice should be considered carefully and preferrably checked against other sources - there are rarely any absolutes, many ways to skin a cat.

A friend sold his boat when we were halfway through doing repairs to the plywood deck, carefully cutting out soft sections and scarfing in new material. The new owner ripped the entire deck off and fitted new in half the time we'd already spent fiddling with it!

Rob.
