Help: HFL Generator 8v output?

I don't disagree with any of that.
But the OP is in Senegal, I've no idea what's available in the way of a facility capable of rewinding or repairing and alternator.
If the continuity of the winding is compromised, open circuit, then i might be tempted to open it up and see if I could find and fix the fault.
But buying a cheap portable generator might be a way of getting a temporary solution.

A petrol generator may have to be quite big to run a 220v watermaker. Mine has a 1500w motor and and needs a 3kw low frequency inverter to run it. It won't run from a 2kw. I don't know the spec of the OPs watermakers but I couldn't run my watermaker from a Honda petrol generator. The 2kw versions will only run a 1hp motor. Some of the USA watermakers specifically limit their motor size to 1hp for this reason

UPDATE: I found an old 50uF 400VAC capacitor in a machine shop in the village we’re in (Toubacouta) and it’s fixed it!

I’ll obviously try and get a new one st some point but we’re back in business. Thanks for all your help everyone!
