Just a thought..........! Being involved for years in marketing in the UK and abroad, I get approached by 'dubious' contacts from time to time. Not wanting to hose down your apparently good news, I would suggest that you make some enquiries and do your homework before you go any further. Nigeria is a hotbed for money scams of many different kinds and they can arrive nicely packaged too. If however your contact is 'gen' - well done and enjoy the extra boost to your business. Just be cautious. Roy
Enclosing an example of a common scam below.

ALHAJI ABBA ABACHA
ABACHA COURT,
11 GIDADO CRISCENT,
KANO STATE, NIGERIA.

Assalaamu 'Alaikum.

URGENT
Compliments of the season!

I am Abba Abacha, the second surviving son of the late General Sanni Abacha,
Nigeria's former Military Head of State who died on the 8th of
June, 1998 of Cardiac Arrest. Since the death of my Father both the immediate, past
and incumbent Government of my Country, Nigeria, have been persecuting my family. The
present Government of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo have turned the klieglight of
investigations into the actvities of my family.

The Government have directed all the Banks in my Country to freeze the accounts
belonging to my family and our numerous Business concerns of
myMother and Uncles have also been closed down and my immediate elder brother has
been arrested by the Nigerian Government, while all our
foreign Bank Accounts have been freezed aided by a publication in the FINANCIAL TIMES
OF LONDON OF FRIDAY 23RD JULY, 1999, though my Father
is not the only past Official accused of having money in foreign Banks.

I am therefore using this medium to solicit for your assistance. Your Business
profile and name were given to me in confidence by the
Nigerian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Foreign Trade Division). The information
regarding the viability of your Business concern gingered me into soliciting for
your help. Now, since the present Government of my Country is hell-bent on
prosecuting, disgracing the good name and image of my entire family and possibly
doing more damages to our financial base, I am therefore desirous of handling over
the remains of my Father's Money,US$36 Million (Thirty-six Million United States
Dollars Only) which is presently SAFELY and SECRETLY kept in CODED CASH in a Security
Company outside my Country to evade confiscation by the Nigerian Government or its
Agents.

Please, if you are interested in helping my family move this money into your private
or Company Account, kindly inform me through my E-mail addresses above. After the
movement of this huge sum of money out of its secret place into your Country, I plan
to give you 30% of the total sum, while 30% will be plunged into your Business concern
as shares or for high profile investment purposes in your Country. Then, the rest 40%
shall be used to settle my entire family who have reached advanced stage to emigrate
abroad for political asylum. For your information,my dear grief stricken mother has
the blessing of this Business transaction. It
is pertinent to state here that this transaction is entirely based on trust and I
would also kindly appeal that you keep this proposed
transaction with TOP SECRET.

Your immediate response should be communicated to my private email
so that all machineries concerning this transaction will
be swung into action.

Thanks.

I Iook forward to hearing from you soon.

Allah's blessings.

ALHAJI ABBA ABACHA.

Interesting, because I can't see how they will con you out of any money by doing this. Perhaps some kind of visa scam - i.e. they have an invite from a UK Company, so their "delegation" can get UK business visitor's visas, come to the UK and then strangely disappear.

Alternatively, perhaps they'll come over, get themselves wined and dined by you and then place an order, ask if they can pay you more than the purchase price so that you can pay them back some money to launder it etc. etc.

Or perhaps it's kosher? /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

Don't worry I was there before you, I hadn't planned on a reply. All other marine businesses are welcome to this valuable lead.

I thought the Visa option looked the most likely, but it really is a bit amateur-hour isn't it. I mean if it came properly written with loads of really good spurious contacts, like internationally known marine logos, and "African representatives for ABC engines" or such they'd have some chance.

I think this is a real business opportunity for Twister Ken, writing copy letters for Nigerian fraudsters at £50 a throw.

i'm with jhr on this one. Very fishy indeed. Tellem to sod off. We've had several so-called customers from Africa, one of them wanting to spend over a million quid, and gave them short shrift. However, one of them did actually buy things (while I was on holiday, slipped thru the net so to speak) but since then I have managed to fend off their approaches.

Tell me, On your site, if your Search for 'Binocular' it comes up with 9 results, the first 2 seem to be the same Century Seapro 2, 7x50 Compass Binocular, new model on discount! priced at £80.84. But when you click on it it shows a price of £76.55 ex. VAT, £89.95 inc.VAT.

So whats the right price?? But more importantly are they any good?

Come on, come on. Question was rhetorical, I may have been born only the day before yesterday but I put the post up to amuse, anger, entertain or generally pass the time of visitors to this centre of excellence.

Having worked in India for a few years, this is a scam to support a visa application. Of course once they are in the country they just dissappear. The most common are application to teaching institutions to attend a course which is never attended or paid for.
Have nothing to do with it.

Just as a guess I'd say the search engine is looking for the srp, and the reason it comes up twice is because it appears in more than one department, and of course they're wonderful but I'll say no more here because I don't want to be Kimmerised, so please send me a pm and I'll add some more.

There must be some really good ways of getting back at these people, I liked www.ebolamonkeyman.com, but even so making them look like tits is not really getting back at them in a meantineful way is it?
