Harvard EDX Backyard meteorology Course

Really enjoying this course so far , ta again for the heads up :encouragement:

Mulling over all this one question from a sailing perspective seemed actually quite tricky to answer - what exactly do you want from a forecast?

Or what don't you want, 2 things spring to mind, I don't want a rolly anchorage so decent swell wave prediction would be nice and I don't want to get *really* hammered (instead of just hammered a bit which might be OK ;) )

From another thread the met office is actually proving to be remarkably accurate up to 4 days ahead,

(fair bit of data missing when the script has ran with no web access but enough to be getting on with)

What's also interesting is the seemingly rather large lack of interest in learning more about such a vital part of sailing..

I think you have answered your own question. There are are plenty of good forecasts available, so the days of sketching feathers on a map of sea areas and trying to wok out where fronts are have long gone. That said, I think local stuff like the effect of clouds and cliffs on wind are worth knowing.

And another one..

Videos in Spanish with subtitles.

Every day a school day :)

A few years ago I followed a very similar one with UBarcelona, same teachers and all in occasion of the Barcelona World Race. I can t remember if it was exactly the same, the older looked shorter, maybe they have expanded some of the sessions.
