Whilst on your yacht sailing or motoring is your lot one of unalloyed pleasure and gaiety or is there a underlying level of stress.Which bits of sailing do you like the best.

Is the OP a troll, a piss taker or what? Could I suggest you pm your replies to the OP :p

No, Wansworth is very genuine, and he uses the word gay in the original sense, meaning happy.

Which bits of sailing do you like the best.

I think it would be a nice steady broad reach on a passage, with no squalls about - nothing too hair raising. Had enough hair raising (and hair losing) episodes in the past.

All of the above! But at different times, generally.

is there a underlying level of stress.

Yes, boat maintenance and costs.

Depends on the day. Sailing locally on a sunny day with good crew is slightly different from sailing hundreds of miles away overnight in fog or a F9 with inexperienced crew

But is it not the marginal conditions that we find ourselves in and with our skills come out well enjoyable and pleasing and dose tend to forget and have to go through the stress again next time we are in marginal conditions?

We hired a boat called Gay Lady from Potter Heigham.

Feeling the boat settle into its course as the sails fill for the first time.
Leaving sight of land.
Watching a ship's lights pass by.
Seeing a fulmar coming to say hello.
Revisiting a familiar harbour.
Visiting an unfamiliar harbour.

Yes so some can evidently enjoy a 'Gay Day' afloat ; its really what Yaching is all about I recon ; enjoyment plus relaxation of a Cruise well done , amoungst the Natural World arround us ; a sort of Bliss on Water ; nothing better I recon {:)
