Does anybody know of fittings that allow sails with hanks to be used in furling foils? I Vaguely remember seeing an ad for plastic slides that fitted extrusions with a hole for the sail hank? Any info would be appreciated.

You can get slides that replace piston hanks to allow you to use fore sails as furling jibs. Ask your local chandlery, there are various types so it is important to get the correct one to suit the foil you are useing. Whip them on to the sail as you would a piston hank. They work well and can save the expense of buying a new sail.

Have you considered having a new lufftape with the right size rope for the furler groove?
I had a sailmaker put a new lufftape on an old genoa for around £60. Much tidier and there are no pressure points from the hanks when the sail is rolled up. Sliders might be a false economy.

I replaced the hanks on my working jib with sail slides (bought at Peter's chandlery, Chichester Marina). I thought that they were a bit light-weight for the load they had to take, so I bought a second set and an eyelet kit and fitted them, too. Seems to work!

Cheers! neil
