OHHH NOOO!!

There are witches in my mailbox.
What am I to do?

I found them there this morning,
doing things they shouldn't do!!

How the witches got there,
I haven't got a clue.

But they won't be there much longer
because I'm sending them to YOU!!!!!!

You've been Witch Kissed!

Before the warts begin to spread,
pass the kisses on instead!

Seems to be mainly an excuse for kids to go legally begging with menaces from door to door over here... :-S

Amazing that I noticed parents driving trick or robbers around in expensive 4x4s from house to house.

Call me miserable (and many do...) but I hate it. Just had more ring on the bell at 1955 and at least were able to get rid of the old sweets from the bottom of the tin...

Next year I am going to anchor off somewhere in my boat and let 'em all get on with it.

Couldn't agree more! Anyway, we carved out our pumpkin, put it in the window, and a few under-age callers dropped by "TRICK OR TREAT!!" So I said - well, have you got a trick then? So they threatened me. Then I said, if you do that, you won't get a treat... seemed they hadn't bargained on that...

Tee hee..

We did not have it in the 50's, had to rely on penny for the Guy and carol singing for funds, Or the fullback of nipping round the back of the shop, borrowing a couple of pop bottles and going round the front to get your deposit of them.
Don't remeber it in the 60's or 70's, who remembers when the marketing boy's realised how much money could be mad on it.
Bit on the radio blames it on the Irish who took it to the States, then they turned it into a money earner, and exported to over here.

Probably depends on which part of the country you come from, in Wales in 60's and 70's was a big thing. We used to have Hallloween parties, with cotton threads from ceiling, and fans to make them move, so they felt like spider threads. and all sorts of other stuff

Used to make all sorts of evil concoctions, with suitable names. Remember a punch bowl drink with green jelly in it (remember the jelly that came in connected cubes that you tore off?) called it Green Goblin juice or something similar.

Re: Meldrew in action

I gave the first gang a quid, the second 50pee, then felt a bit mugged as pathetic "ghosts" in twos or threees arrived every five minutes, so i didn't answer the door. Sixth or seventh group got a bit arsey and threw eggs on the doorstep, sounded a right scene, they ran off and we had to sluice down the path. I admit that the next little gang who pranced geefully down the path got a full-on drenching from the handy bucket of water i was using to clean the doorstep. Unfortunatety they were only about nine or ten.

Ah well, trick or treat i spose, they either get a quid or drenched.

Re: Meldrew in action

Its the Barbour coated Porsche Cheyane driver who was ferrying the little "robbers" around sat at the bottom of the drive that really got me.....

Joanne thinks that I am very Meldrewish wanting to sit here with all the lights out and not opening the door - a bit like a wartime blackout scenario.

Pal of mine opens the door to them and asks them to leave very quietly as someone is "dying in the house" - apparently that tends to send them scampering off quickly and I am going to try it if any call again this evening.

Re: Meldrew in action

I heard of someone getting 32 callers tonight! No joy in that.

Don't mind the young kids having fun, it's the older ones who make no effort and just have their hands out that get me.

Joanne is right. You are a miserable bugger!

Me, I just keep the rifle next to the door, and if anyone thinks the pumpkin outside is an invitation to visit, in this rural idyll of mine, let a shot off at them

Re: Meldrew in action

Personally I would have also thrown a hot bag of flour on them and a glass or two of ginger beer! At the same time I would howl like a wolf and grunt my way to the end of the drive, dragging my gammy leg behind me.

Trick or treat, it's a pile of cobblers. What ever happened to ALL HALLOWS?
