And we are, apparently "Petty and Nitpicking". From the article ...

However at the end of the day we are not sailing there therefore -

no marina fees paid
no fuel or spares/repairs purchased
no food or clothes bought
no sightseeing
no pubs or restaurants visited

generally then a lot less money is going to the island, and in this day and age that I would consider to be a massive problem for the island and something they need to take onboard very seriously.

Just had a quick look at our credit card statement. Last year we spent > £1400 there. Plus £2 on the bus :)

We maybe, but we pay for them to provide a service and currently several of their customers are reporting that the service is poor.

I for one will not be spending any time or cash until I see some postive feedback; I do the same for most other things.

Interesting that BBC Guernsey seem to think the IOW and Yarmouth are different places.

Personally I think the comments are as expected and they will just shrug it off as unimportant because after all plenty of people still go there. I recall Salcombe had a similar attitude some years back and their lost business took years to recover. Nobody wants to be taken for granted and quite a few here will not be again.

I complained to the Guernsey stand at Southampton Boatshow once some years back about the alcoholics that hung around daily on the benches overlooking the marina drinking cans of beer and jeering at people passing. 'Nobody else has complained' I was told.

They were still there in 2010. It made coming up the ramp from the pontoons quite intimidating.

Which meant I had to escort swimbo when she went shopping :(

I remember years ago looking through the phone book in a St PeterPort public phone, think I must have been looking or a garage to get petrol or something; starting at 'A' there was a very long list under alcohol help services, presumably a result of the cheap booze !

The harbour authority really are stupid if they're letting 'customers' be bothered like that; when at Wareham Quay a while ago - at the time there'd been some trouble with boats cast adrift etc - a gang of sullen looking young yobs gathered on the quayside, obviously psyching themselves up to do something, if only shout abuse...

The wife on the boat next door was rather worried and I was getting annoyed, so I slipped away to a call box and spoke to the police; I had made light of it, but the result was impressive; about 4-5 police cars and a serious grilling & warning for the yobs !

That place doesn't even charge for berthing at all, let alone handsomely as St Peter Port does, but they obviously care about their image and not upsetting visitors who spend money there...

The most telling thing of all

Several authorities have been alerted and have responded via email to posters. The BBC have highlighted so they must be aware now.

And no-one from the island authorities has even acknowledged this on this thread - How much would it have taken for one person to log on and post something - not an answer as i appreciate that can take time but if they really cared at all a quick acknowledgement on here in a "We take it seriously - this is the generic stuff we're doing - we'll come back and talk to you in 2 weeks but thanks "

Lets see if it does hurt their wallets - Salcombe suffered allegedly but seems to have faced up to it so much that I may go there this summer - Lets see if Guernsey can do it as well

Yes, Salcombe now has a very much better attitude to visiting boaters, cheerfully, helpful and not pushy.
2 days and counting, still no response to my 2 emails to SPP Harbour and Guernsey Tourist Board. Seems they don't care a jot. They told me 2011 was particularly quiet, will be interesting to see what 2012 has in store for them.
