Last time I did this, it was cutting the corner into Hamble and felt like a prat but just carried on drinking the Carlsberg which has caused the problem in the first place until the tide came back up. (didn't we Troutbridge?) Now what about these new drinking laws - would I have been done when stationary and attached to the ground ??

Hang on a minute!!!! I think we need an investigation here! A BAVARIA? Hitting at 7 knots?? Keel still there???

Surely not!!!!

If you belive the Bav Bashers on this forum they fall off as soon as the boat is launched!

We have ours permanently lashed to the boat just in case /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

I saw a Bavaria up on the hard at Mylor today with XXXXXXXXX.com written on the side. Had a breif look at the keel and it seemed to still be attached. Maybe 7 knots is an exaggeration. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

First action on running aground is to tack. As a twin keeler this lifts the deep keel & lowers the opposite one. 9 times out of 10 you will simply sail back into the channel. Very useful technique when tacking up the Menai Straits between the sandbanks. I suspect it may be the origin of the saying "touch & go".

If one has put a set of tram lines up the bank, then kettle on, sails stowed & get ready for a game of beach cricket, golf practice, bait digging, good scrub down or a megga Barbie. Anchor is only reqd for show and will need to be moved into deeper water & well dug in ready for when the tide returns.

I like the idea of swopping your defaced Blue for a regular Red Ensign. How about turning your dodgers round too?

I must admit that there a number of anchorages where I have been known to sail straight up the beach in order to chuck the kids ashore for an hour or two. It also makes it easy to get an ice cream for 'em too.

Sorry for aggressive response, had just got back after trying to sort friends real commercial problem. He had told me in detail the idiots slippery response to the incident and I was pissed because I charter my boat through his company and know what a bunch of twats charterers can be.
His boat has been surveyed by one of the most experienced surveyors down here and he reports Keel driven back into hull and huge amounts of work necessary to make boat safe, Possibly Sadler or Sigma least of all Bav etc couldn't have survived this impact.
Appreciate we all push our luck at times but driving into a wall like Turnaware is stupid, ignorant or completley dependant on others to save your arse.
I hate legislation but the more I see on the water convinces me a Licence demonstrating a minimum standard of competence is essential
