Cygnus,John Boddy Timber Ltd should be able to sort you out. Tel 01423 322370.(North Yorks)
W.L.West in Sussex supplied a lot to me recently but probably too far for a small amount.

Thanks Mad Pad

I was in touch with some of the aforementioned suppliers, those that did show an interest wanted me to pay off their mortgage! Was advised that air dried oak would do the job, so went back to my very excellent supplier Trev Gibson, Normanton on Trent. I'd approached him about Green Oak, but he doesn't do it. Checking up showed me that kiln dried stuff 'sets' the Lignite(?????) in the wood to a point where it won't steam. In air dried oak the lignite (I hope I've got the name right) can still be softened with steam. The wood arrives in 3 days and I'm going to submerge it for a month before I try steaming. We'll see what happens.....

Thanks for the replies so far

Good to hear you're making progress

The stuff in wood is lignin; lignite is a kind of low-grade coal!
