I need to have some work done on my Moody 44 "Canopus" this year and I need to*decide whether to ask our Summer base (Mytilini Marina) or our Winter haul-out location (Dimstef Marine, Evia) to do it.

My jobs lists includes*

  • Reseal all fixed ports/windows
  • Reseal chain plates
  • Replace section of guardrail
  • Replace or service some seized through-hull fittings
  • Replace some "suspect"
sanitation hose

I'd be very interested to hear other views/experiences of both yards wrt competency*of their tech services/engineering.

Many Thanks

Steve

No contest - though your list of low-value -addition tasks would probably not be attractive to either.
Dimstef are highly competent - your alternative is the local chandler who does the odd job on boats when he has time.
I can only speak with experience of Dimitrios.

You may know better than I do but when we spent a few nights at Mytilini last year we were told that haul-out there, by the independent yard next door but nothing to do with the marina, is very expensive. We were not too impressed with the lift-out facilities, whereas we rode to Dimstef by bicycle and were quite impressed.

Reassuring - we hope to be there this winter. Having had superb engineering at Yacht Marine Marmaris, I was dreading exposure to the haphazard Greeks - though Manolis on Leros is a definite exception.
