Great cruising boat suggestions.

I agree 100%. I also wonder why couples need such large boats? 36 feet seems plenty for me in every way. I have to say, each to their own. We have chosen less than 36 feet and the other details listed above.

Indeed! How about a Laurent Giles Vertue II; or for more luxury how about Rossiter Yachts Curlew. Sorry I've just been reading a copy of Classic Boat from 1989.

I've seen a number of classic boats since we've been looking. I know they would be a bad idea but can't help lusting after one!

Fight it, you know it makes no sense.

But check this out, again:

Well I think it might be a fine idea. Altho that might or might not be the ideal, I wonder if Allan (or partner) are actually looking for a boat with something special about it, rather than the most capable (or least-incapable at any rate) .

With a classic (or whatever, nouveau classic) there's surely an intangible extra feeling about the boat from oneself and from others.

I suppose that the sensible way to cross the Atlantic is on a plane or ship - so it's much more special to do it on a sailing boat. Similarly, the sensible sailing option is taking full advantage of modern technology, so it's more special on a classic.

TCM, in many ways I think you have hit the nail on the head. I would probably be one of the first people to volunteer to join you on the bouncy castle!
My partner is going to pick a boat which, we believe, is the most suitable for the sailing we have planned.
We're off to look at more boats this weekend and could be making an offer next week, I've been told.

Careful, that tcm bloke has been known to row a red boat up the main street in New York. Video evidence is available.

As I've said before, I often wonder about previous threads and how things panned out. I try to avoid that on threads I've started.
An offer has now been made and accepted on a boat which, we think, fits our needs. I'm not going to to give any detail at this point, as there are the usual hoops to jump through. One thing I will say is that as we drove away from the viewing I knew she would make an offer. Despite all of her spreadsheets and tools for making logical decisions, there was an emotional aspect to, what I hope, is her final choice.

PS. I love the boat too!

well, okay, but you've still got to tell us more perhaps with some pix, before say the end of the year please :-)

Yes I will. Hopefully in the next few weeks.
Edit: I should have added, many thanks to everyone who replied to this thread. It has helped us to focus on some important things.

Can't see Sadler 34 here. Strong safe blue water cruiser. The seat alongside the cabin table converts to a very comfortable double berth when off-watch - couple of duvets and you are away with the fairies till the next rude awakening.

Notice Sadler 34 SE 'Running Water' for sale YachtWorld Falmouth. She was owned by Thames Water and well maintained when I worked there.

Not sure why you are pushing this boat. If you read what the OP was looking for, doubt it would be on his short list, not least because the budget is nearly twice what a Sadler 34 would go for.

There's always the 'add ons', as I am sure you are well aware.

Thanks for the suggestion but, as I have said earlier an offer has been made and accepted. I'll give more details if ( please cross fingers) it continues to go through.
