Went 2 weeks ago. try and go once per year but for some reason it has seems to have been closed for last 2 years, however was very much open this year and standard and value was as good as ever. Definite recommend.
I would be interested to hear your feedback on the Gousier. It used to be my favourite place in Cherbourg but a few years ago the owners retired and the business passed on to their daughter and her husband who was the chef. Would not say it was bad but it was not the same. Daughter was nowhere as good as her mother doing front of house and some things were allowed to slide eg. light bulbs broken but not replaced. Just felt their heart wasn't really in it 100%. Last visit it was really quiet which is not a good sign It would be good to hear its back on top form.
I organised a lunch there this year in May. Unfortunately we mucked them about something rotten on the numbers attending, in part due to the weather.
Madame was perfectly charming about it, laid on a private room and an excellent meal. We would go again. If you have the omelette Norvegienne bear in mind that one can feed 4 people - we still ate it all!
We ate there on the first Sunday of our cruise. There was a large party of locals in the back room, which is probably a good indication. We had an excellent meal, and I thought upto the standard of our previous visit some 5 years ago. I would not hestitate to recommend it still.
Just as good we thought was Restaurant 32, in Rue Marichal Foch, just behind the Tourist Info office. Like the Grandgousier, not a place we would have chosen from the outside, had it not been recommended. We could not get in first time that we tried but booked the next night and were not disappointed.
