All of the modern GNSS systems support encryption so if spoofing were to become an issue it would very quickly be enabled for civilian use. It isn’t a real world issue today though
Were there not some ships in the black sea a few years back all affected by spoofing?

More than just Black Sea ..... but some people will never believe.

The Controllers of the system themselves have done it more than a few times due conflicts etc. People forget that military and public do not work same ... they can send you of to xxxx while military still spot on ...

Literally what I said. They use the gyros. They don’t need the linear accelerometers because they can measure movement in 3 dimensions so don’t need to sense that part of the equation.
The linear accelerometers in a compass IC are first and foremost used to work out which way is 'UP', without that you can't work out which way is North, due to magnetic dip. If you're happy with a 2D compass which needs to be gimballed or kept flat, the firmware is a lot simpler.

Not worth the bother - he knows all the answers about it .....

The fact that all accelerometers need to initialise on start up - to set orientation and base 'lines' ... escapes his reasoning. Even the basic Gyro stabilisers we use in models have accelerometers .....

May the Lord have mercy on navigators who don’t use their eyes.

A lesson in Radar use on board ship .....

Cadet is on radar watch and OOW is gauging his use of ...

Cadet then says ... I cannot figure out a route through this lot (its a fishing fleet ... ) ...

OOW then says - do as I do ... LOOK OUT THE F'G WINDOW ... and take each as it comes ...

Also turn down the bl***y radar range to reduce the targets shown ... work as they come ...

Even including asking the skipper of a passing boat: "Can you tell me where I am, please?" :D

Palawan Passage ... I'm on a Gas Ship trundling along with 85,000 cu.m of LNG ..... On first leaving load port (Brunei) we would be slow at about 13 - 14kn for a few hours ....
Greek Bulk Carrier is on port 1/4 trundling along as well ....

VHF :

Greek :> Ship xx miles on stbd bow ... this is xxxxx
Me :> Bulk carrier on port 1/4 - this is ST Gadinia
Greek :> Do you have Sat Nav and where are you bound ?
Me :> Yes and bound for Tokyo Bay ...
Greek :> Great - can you give me your Lat / Long position ? And Tokyo Bay is ours as well .... we will keep in touch ...
Me :> Position at xx:xx is Lat xxxx Long xxxx ... ok

At 10:00 am - we had schedule ... to commence winding up main engines for speed trial for one hour ... to be at max design speed of 22kn at 12:00. Then slow down over next 2 hours to liner speed of 18.5kn.

VHF came alive ... with the frantic voice of the other vessel - WHAT ARE YOU DOING ?????

One of LIfe's hard lessons ....

Rubbish - you did not read or understand what I wrote.

I give up ... you clearly have no idea.
Very weird tone to take, you may want to reread before posting as you’re coming across as aggressive for no reason at all.

I was simply offering an explanation as to why drones might not use all the readings.

I am not agressive - just disappointed that you learnt nothing from this.

I have explained what they do - but seems my info is disregarded.

Not my problem ol'bean.

Das ve danya..... and all that.

Well it’s nice that you’re acting the expert despite not having heard of a 9axis sensor prior to my post. You demonstrated a lack of understanding and I tried to help so you turned on me. Quite sad that the forum is like this more often than not these days.

Is that realistically a probably thing to happen where we sail? Would be simple to spot anyway with tracking turned on. Plenty things that might actually happen to worry about as it is 😁

It's happening a lot - jamming or spoofing. At least they sometimes tell you it's happening.

I shan't try to sail up Charing Cross road during the coronation then 😁😁

To be clear: I do not expect the jammers to be turned on unless things really kick off and an emergency occurs.

Don't panic. The Deliveroo driver will still be able to find your house.

Still not feeling very scared........ 🤔
