Got the boat - where to moor

After 4 years of seraching for the right boat, I have bought a mainship 40 it is a roomy amrican boat which has everthing that I need to live on board.

But where do I go ? I found out recently that quite a few marina's are not in favor of liveaborad's !!

The mooring could be in London Kent or anywhere else as long as I can get in to work which is waterloo or Blacfriars in London and maybe see the X and the kids once in a while, That is Kent,

Please let me know of places where the atmosphere is good and there are good services.

Blackwall Basin/Marina seemed a friendly enough place. I used to have an apartment on the edge of it. Frequently saw communal BBQs, etc. Dead simple and quick to get to Waterloo or Tower Bridge.

Nice boat. You will find that most deep-water marinas in the UK have a non-liveaboard clause in their standard contract. (I don't know anything about inland waterways though).

However, in practice most will tolerate liveaboards if you are discrete. The only marinas in the area you specify that I know actively deter liveaboards, are St Katherine's on the Thames, Gillingham and Chatham on the Medway.

Two checks you can do on a marina in advance. (1) Visit on a weekday evening out of season and look for signs of life on boats, lights and particularly external TV ariels. (2) Avoid marinas where the standard contract specifies very tightly just how often you are permitted to sleep aboard.

Do not say that you intend to live aboard when you sign the contract. Keep your boat seaworthy and take her out once in a while. To make quite certain, just stay for a month at first.

One problem with this strategy is in obtaining a postal address, without which you will encounter a range of other difficulties, so consider that when you make your choice - a nearby friend is an asset.

No idea what its like, came across it during own investigations a few years ago.
