I'm removing about 6 square metres of old non-slip adhesive stuff off the deck of my boat.. the idea is to leave the whole deck clean and not to stick anything else on it.. however, the glue underneath is a horrible 1 mm thick greenish solid substance.. any good ideas on how to remove that without damaging the gel coat? I've tried with cotton and acetone but it took a long time to do just 3 square inches.. any suggestion will be highly appreciated.. (the original colour is light cream, but after using the acetone you can still see some light brown stains.. polish after removing the glue? or do I definitely need to paint or cover with new stickers?).. thanks in advance.. My neighbour is a printer that does the graphics on London cabs, when they remove the self adhiesive vinal from the cabs it leaves a layer of glue, he used a pruduct that is designed to remove glue from any surface with out damaging it, I'll find out what it is called and let you know.

I would probably try this:put a layer of fabric on top of the area to be stripped and soak it with acetone. Then cover it with a strong plastic sheet to stop the acetone from evaporating.Allow some time for the acetone to soften the glue and then scrape it off.I would work in small areas at a time.
Last time I had to remove stubborn bits of glue from the gelcoat I found that leaving a rag full of acetone over the glue for a while did help a lot.The gelcoat didn't seem to mind.

Thanks 30boat and ThomasHome.. I'll start by using the cloths and plastic with acetone.. if it doesn't work and you find out about that special glue-removal product I will eventually try it.. I do hope it works either way because I really wouldn't like to have to paint the deck.

Best regards.. Atlantis
