I (used to) use Vueling air company (Iberia low cost), they are sending emails with offers to get the test in Spanish territory to their customers, maybe have a look at their web site even if not flying with them.

I don't think that you need to worry about bringing anything back to the UK now. Tomorrow we are vaccinating the under 40's and there really are no vulnerable people who have not now been offered a jab. The vaccines we use work against all variants despite what the alarmist press will have you believe.

Spain and the rest of Europe are between 4 and 8 weeks behind the UK and soon they too will have vaccinated their vulnerable and so infection rates and deaths will tumble too so I expect Spain to be on the green list before the end of July.

We were hoping to go to the Rias for the summer, however Spain is still operating a curfew and if going to Spain means having to wear masks everywhere and obey a curfew then it has no appeal. Consequently we plan to go to Scotland this year.

I've just looked at Martin Lewis' website and he states that Lateral flow tests would be OK before leaving Spain. If yes, that's great as they are available free from the UK government and you can take them with you.

Latest weekly email: Martin's 19 travel need-to-knows (moneysavingexpert.com)
Will that be acceptable? I think that when you take the test in Spain they will check who you are and assign the results to you. With an NHS kit there is no guarantee that you actually did the test!

Moving on...... It seems that the lateral flow test is indeed acceptable to travel back to the UK and that it is being offered at major airports. So book the test ( allow a bit more time at the airport) get a certificate on your app ( or hard copy version) and board your flight,

At the moment it won't be acceptable. Check-in desk want to see test certificate and so do UK passport control.

Your test result must be in either English, French or Spanish. Translations will not be accepted.

You must provide the original test result notification. It must include the following information:

  • your name, which should match the name on your travel documents
  • your date of birth or age
  • the result of the test
  • the date the test sample was collected or received by the test provider
  • the name of the test provider and their contact details
  • confirmation of the device used for the test, or that the test was a PCR test
If the test result does not include this information you may not be able to board, and may not be able to travel to England. If you arrive without a test result that includes this information, you might have to pay a £500 fine.
