Come on someone must have some views on the relaiblity of DC generators compared to huge engine alternators??

Alternators are much more efficient and charge at lower speeds, the brushes in generators are the main problem, they wear, quite quickly, also they are harder to seal effectively, get hotter and are much bigger than alternators for the same output, don´t bother with engine driven dc ganerators, just not worth it, thats the reasons car manufacturers went away from them, weight and expense. IMHO of course.
