I have the UHD65cv. In menu, tracks, active tracks, clear active tracks. Deletes all tracks and starts new ones until you delete them again. Does this work with yours?
If you have issues, you could post it to me and i'll update it for you and see if i can resolve why you can't delete the track, no charge. Thanks again for advice. No rush. I will take some photos and make detailed notes which I will communicate on here and to Garmin.
Although as I mentioned earlier my issue is not mentioned in the software upgrades I feel it would be a good move.
Do I need to use Active Captain to install the software updates?. This could prove to be another issue as I do not have a phone.

Well done Mike.Great news!. Got it sorted.
I decided it was beyond comprehension that any manufacturer would make such a product without the facility to clear the tracks. That would be like manufacturing a car with no wheels - it would be useless. What is clear is the manual Garmin say is correct for this unit is not, I very much doubt a manual exists for this unit except for the basic get started manual that came with it.
I just decided I had to get stuck in and find out what the issue is/write my own manual.
The actual function of the unit compared with the manual is not in the same ball park.
I discovered how to clear the tracks as follows...............
Go to the Home screen and highlight the ships wheel - botton left of screen - select.
Highlight System - select
Highlight System Information - select
Highlight Reset - select
Highlight Delete User Data - select
6 options now appear
Waypoints/Routes/Active Tracks/Saved Tracks/Boundaries/Delete All User Data
Just select which one you want to delete and do the deed.

I would advise updating the software version by version since your version is so old. Normally it can be OK to skip a couple, but there's a possibility that a later upgrade which may be patching a function introduced in a previous upgrade could fail if that part of the software/firmware does not exist. Thanks Paul for your kind offer., I will turn my attention to updating the software in due course and let you know how I get on. The software version is pretty ancient as far as I can see, it is version 28.10.
Latest update is here : Garmin: echoMAP with SD Card Updates & DownloadsThanks Paul for your kind offer., I will turn my attention to updating the software in due course and let you know how I get on. The software version is pretty ancient as far as I can see, it is version 28.10.
As I have just learned to resize photos and as a photo tells 1000 words I will post below a bunch of photos I took yesterday of the steps indicated above.

There no no need to do the updates incrementally, just install the latest version.I would advise updating the software version by version since your version is so old. Normally it can be OK to skip a couple, but there's a possibility that a later upgrade which may be patching a function introduced in a previous upgrade could fail if that part of the software/firmware does not exist.
As i said earlier, you wouldn't always need a new manual. Updates are usually bug fixes or minor improvements, but sometimes they make changed to the UI (user interface) that would mean some changes to the manual. Thanks Paul,
I was wondering whether I would have to install each software version individually, thanks for anticipating my next question.
As well as posting on here I have been corresponding with Garmin who even during this holiday period reply very promptly. They advise my plotter will function as per the owners manual as previously supplied to me (Echomap UHD2 5x/7x) providing I update to the latest software version - from 28.10 to 37.
This seems to back up my earlier comment that each time you perform a software update you need a new owners manual.
