Hi
I am a newish motor boater and want to know how I can link up two 5 gallon fuel tanks to the out board so as it will take fuel from the full one when the other is empty.
I always carry twice the amount of fuel required but as it is in two seperate tanks. Last week we got caught in some weather. fought it all the way home and found ourself runninig short getting over the bar.Trying to sort it out whilst in a large akward swell was no fun.The wife managed!!

I've just dont similar to my boat. But on a some what bigger scale.
Remove drain plug and replace with tap. All threads should by BSP (British Standard Pipe) From any engineers shop or Plumbers merchants. Add flex pipe to tap. You can buy an electric pump that will fit in the line Or Go down a two inch hole or less (which ever is easiest) Also you can buy fittings to increase or reduce pipe size, T pieces or bends. Difficult to say more without seeing the instalation but it's very easy and all with standard parts.

I've plummed my two 75 gallon tanks together with taps tuned off normaly. T Piece down to bilge to colect any water or muck. Also fitted a 45 gallon oil drum in the lazerette with electric pump and pipe. All painted up and looks quite posh.

Your first reply was a bit too technical, how about a much easier solution.

Nip up to your local chandlers and purchase an L port ball valve and some hose tails. This valve has 3 ports, but only allows 2 to open at any time making it perfect for fuel diverting. Fit 2 fuel tank connectors to it, and the outboard fuel line to the 3rd.
