Freshwater lake no speed limit for cruiser?

I used to have the hotel overlooking the dam. They have strict rules regarding type of boat you can use-Max boat size used to be about 18ft.

While they are a great club, I dont think they would let you turn up in Peche Promanade /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Website is here. Not all the links seem to be working at the moment.

Some friends of ours went to Blackpool for a weeks holiday. As usual the weather was lousy. Rain. Rain. Rain.

So they decided to go on one of the "Magical Mystery Tours" advertised along the front.

The coach headed off from the Pleasure Beach and picked up the M55. Then the M6, eventually an hour or so later arriving at the "Mystery Destination - Carr Mill Dam".

Bit of a pisser really as the couple lived on Carr Mill Road overlooking the Dam.

Seems I've got two choices then to give the outboard a chance to stretch it's legs.
The sea (Dartmouth springs to mind) - now I know it's not really a problem, but as river users there are obviously some safety issues we need to address and I need to figure out what precautions we need to take to minimise the ravages of salt water to engine and trailor?
Alternatively, the Scottish lochs (Tay perhaps), and here there are two drawbacks - namley the considerable cost of getting there (V8 Discovery!) and the midges in August?
Constructive suggestions very welcome . . . . . . . please

As an aside, ur new 115hp Mercury 4-stroke says for the 1st 2 hours, 1 minute in 10 should be at full power, then so much full power over the next 10 hours in order for the engine to bed-in correctly - how does anyone get a new engine run-in properly if they're on a river or lake?

There is no speed limit out on the main loughs of the Shannon and Erne in both ROI and NI. Speed restrictions only in narrow channels, locks, bridges, moorings, the usuall, etc.

If you're considering saltwater now, then look at sheltered estuaries (east coast) or Bristol Channel ( a fair bit upstream tho') Menai Straits or Anglesey (launch from leeward side of island!) or even the Clyde. Note that there are local speed limits around some harbours/ moorings.
