Naah, an 80+ meters, wedding cake style gin palace is way OTT as a forum boat.
Not long ago, Tribu was for sale for less than one tenth of that amount, IIRC.
Smaller, but still not too shabby at 50m, ice rated, and she already proved her capabilities by circumnavigating - what else could we need, for proper forum parties?
I'd rather throw in a few bobs for something like that!

I guess you are talking about the Teevee programme this evening.
FWIW the reason I see all that superyacht/megayact stuff as totally irrelevant is that with a very few exceptions none of the owners of boats over 24mWLL have the necessary ticket to drive them. So all they can do is sit in a chair all day or lean over the rail and gossip with ""friends" who know they have been invited just so that they can show how impressed they are with the owner's toy. That's not boating, it's gloating. For me the pleasure of a boat is partly where it can take us, but also the passage planning, navigation, engineering and boat-handling I have to learn and go on learning to keep us safe. If I had to have a hired hand to drive it I wouldn't bother.
If there was to be a forum boat it would have to be one we could all drive. How many here have a ticket for 24m+?

Actually, the broker was already negotiating the price.
Saying that it wouldn't be below 150 million - IMO that means 150 million would be the max it would go for.

I didn't particularly warm to him personally, but I thought the owner of Turquoise seemed genuinely enthusiastic about boating, likewise the Raymond guy who plans a year long circumnavigation on his next boat. They may like different aspects of boating to you, but I think it's unfair to suggest that they're only doing it to show off.
Also, don't forget that the superyacht owners that want to be on a TV show won't be representative of all, or even most, owners, many of whom buy yachts partly for the privacy they afford.

On that score he let himself down by wanting a helipad, for show, because it ticked a box and even though it couldn't be used given the size of the boat it was a nice problem to have. No, he may be enthusiastic about boating, but there was a lot of show still involved. I did warm to his boat Turquoise though. Of all those shown it seemed to be the only sane one w.r.t. interior taste and furnishings.

I know but it sounds like a figure plucked out of the air to sound impressive rather than fact. The engine would take a few seconds to prime with oil and a few more to start, I don't see that costing anywhere near £2K.

Yep, I didn't see the program, but surely it's just a matter of being more impressive to say so, rather than splitting the startup cost between 20 quids of fuel (if that) and 1980 quids of overhead absorption...

As a life-long raggy, but who once owned an Offshore 31 through my company, I watched the programme with interest but not devotion.
What struck me about the very big boats, and surely this links directly to "gloating not boating", is that the verry big ones can't get into many of the fashionable resorts and have to wait outside.
Seems totally pointless if everyone else is in-port partying and he's the one sitting in his purple lounge all by himself.
And £2000 just to star! the engine! Shhheeesssshhh.
And first thing I'd ditch would be that ridiculous 'through decks' chandelier!!!
