Forum Rules - Definition of a MAB & AWB

Give me strength. This is so typical of modern "simplifications" take something that works perfectly well & screw it up completely. Well done OP, brilliant improvement - NOT!

Fortunately, nobody needs to (or is likely to) follow the "improved" version.

Yours is still a MAB :D

What's the point?

2 perfectly easily grasped, understood, widely used & remembered classifications that cover a multitude of variations (as described by PRV) have suddenly deteriorated into a score of hardly differentiated & confusing lists.

epitome of a post by a CAC with a MAB

WMD:

My manky steel rustbucket with its 6 mm plating designed to resist machine gun fire at point blank range and with enough momentum to take out an entire marina once wound up to its maximum cruising speed of 5 kts and pointed in the right direction.

As the OP I am enjoying this thread, I have never seen pvr's witty definition and there are also many other witty contributions that have made me smile.

I posted in all seriousness as I think many have their own opinion of the definitions and they might not agree.

Oh and I should add there are also some sour grapes contributions that could make some misjudge the poster as an embittered old man - but I hope not!

It appears to me that many justify their ownership of an old boat by mentioning various "qualities" while the reality is that few if any could buy a modern new boat.

Are you suggesting that "Few if any could buy a modern new boat" because they cannot afford them?

You could say that but I could not possibly!!

I am sure that these decerning owners of MAB really know the sea and the sea keeping qualities of MAB's and only keep going on about them to owners of AWB's so as to educate them and stop them risking their lives by using them.

Well, here's just one tiny group of MAB owners who might disagree with you. A new AWB would be loose change to most of the one's I know. I can think of literally thousands of others. Google Jongert for starters.

I know that and just felt a bit provocative but it is unfortunate that a number do seem to come over that way you know with that bitter taste!!

I really intended for this post to determine some good definitions as its obvious from the "I love my AWB" thread that there are many opinions and some of the very early Bavs (and other v early ex charter boat - not singling any onemake out) could be getting into MAB teritory as being dark, possibly smelly bilges and a bit tatty so I thought is there a clear definition.

I should have known better and that it would degenerate into AWB v MAB and I have to pleed guilty into helping this. I will now write 100 lines - I should be more grown up!!
