Forestay to bow fitting

Hi, I've rigged newly aquired Hunter Horizon 23 last weekend and am left in some confusion regarding the forestay and plastimo 406 chain plate arrangement. How exactly should this be done? I've seen an example where forstay is bolted on to chain plate below reefing roller and chain plate below this is them bolted to bow fitting - this allows adgustment of both roller height and length of forestay but looks unsightly and I would prefer to see the forestay go to bow roller without relying on chainplate legs. My forstay is to long to fit a bottle screw but not long enough to reach bow fitting directly. Some advice will be much appreciated...

I have the Plastimo 800 reefing and it is configured as you described.

Reefing onto chainplate and forestay onto reefing.

My issue was that I was that the hole through the middle of the reefing drum was too small to take a rigging screw up the middle.

Can't think of a way around it. Does not look to bad on my boat though.

Regards

Wayne

Hi Ian

Not familiar with this particular arrangement, but it's important that the forestay is free to articulate both fore-aft and cross-ship at it's attachment at the bow. Whatever arrangement you use (toggles etc) makes sure this is the case. From what you describe, the length is just about right for a pair of toggles, perhaps with a connecting plate between them?

Thats how I had to do it when I had a Plastimo 406 - the other alternative is to use a bottle screw which was hidden by the Plastomo unit, but if I remember you had to order the Plastimo gear for a bottle screw.

To get the forestay tight you had to slacken off the aft shrouds, connect up the forestay then tighten the rear shrouds again. You might have to have 2 goes at it to get it correct. Then MARK the hole so you don't have to go through the procedure next year!
