Valid point but Bainbridge are the same price as the dodgy companies.
Bainbridge are mainly importers/suppliers to chandlers. Should be safe to buy from, but do they do retail online?

Marine Megastore are infamous around these parts for poor or nonexistent service. They operate by drop-shipping (holding no stock, and getting your order sent directly by the supplier), which is not inherently a problem but in their case seems to work really badly.
Possibly because they forget to pay their suppliers
I have used Bainbridge Marine in the past and they are a fine upstanding outfit !
Slightly unusual in that they don't deal direct, so one just nominates a chandlery which is handy to collect from and they sort it out; at least that was how it was a few years ago, all went quickly and smoothly.
I would be cancelling and requesting a refund pronto.
I didn't think they could charge before the item was about to ship?
Can a legal bod comment?

Why not? I ordered a bunch of DIY items from B&Q in February, they're not going to be delivered until 17th April - I still had to pay at the counter for the order....
I'm fairly sure mail-order comes under Distance Selling regulations, which differ from "traditional" retail.
