For whom the clock is running.

I don't know why some of you people even cruise in Greece, you seem to hate the way the country is run so much. And often without fully understanding what you're even talking about. ALL Greek documents require your father's name, some also require your mother's name. The reasoning is simple once you understand how children are traditionally named here. The first born son is named for the father's father. The first born daughter is named for the mother's mother. The second born son is named for the mother's father. The second born daughter is named for the father's mother. Not only is this traditional and respectful but it also helps to preserve ancient christian names and avoids the stupidity of people called Zara and Zac (or worse).

That of course means that in a family with a surname of (say) Kyriakis, if the grandfather is Georgios Kyriakis then his son's firstborn son will also be Georgios Kyriakis (affectionately known by the diminutive Georgaki). Since Greek families often live together at the same address it's confising having two Geogios Kyriakis at the same address - but by including the name of the father it's possible to tell them apart. That your father died 50 years ago is neither here nor there, the system here requires father's (and sometimes mother's) names to be sure they know which Georgios Kyriakis you are. If you want to be here then learn to fit in - you are a guest here and you have to change to suit the Greeks, not the other way round.

Greece has not (to my knowledge) refused to vaccinate foreigners. The need for an AMKA number (which is like the UK NI number) is because ALL health services are keyed on the AMKA number (just as they're keyed to the NI number in the UK). As I understand it the issue of temporary numbers is taking some time because they need to ensure that they are easily identifiable in the future as being vaccination-only numbers and are not able to be used to access regular Greek healthcare. As I understand it the AMKA system (which really is just a number) was never designed to have such restrictive numbers issued - that's the problem.

And don't you dare accuse Greece of bribery and corruption with the Greensill scandal rumbling away in the UK. People who live in glass houses.....

When I was in my teens my grandfather who lived with us and had the same name was JG Senior, my father JG Esq.and I JG Jnr.

Why can't he comment?
You need to watch the video. It is his examination of vaccine side effects he made yesterday based on the study in question.
He does make guarded comments but as a professional dactor he must refrain from commentd until the study has been peer reviewed. Also Google have a secret algorithm to cancel certain content.

I don't think its anything other than stupid beauocracy .AMKA. wanting to know my father name wanting his tax number The fact that he died 50 years ago is no help.
Can you imagine the outcry in the UK if we refused to vaccinate foreigners.
Its a beautiful country screwed by its low level of education, bribery , corruption.

I think you have given a slight exaggeration to favour your story with you having to give his {father's} tax number, never. As explained in depth by TC the reasons why you are asked for your father's name in the first instance and sometimes your mothers maiden name. I used to have difficulty with this but you just get on with it, what seems silly to us makes sense to the Greeks so there is no point in getting upset or annoyed.
Greece is making great strides to become fully digital with all the records so I can see before too long form filling will be a thing of the past as it will be all done on line.
As you will well know, the EU have made a total pigs ear of the pandemic and I would say Greece is doing ok under the circumstances and the jackboot of the Brussel's bureaucracy.
Greece is between a rock and a hard place, unlike a lot of other EU states and VDL regarding the withdrawing of the AstraZeneca vaccine Greece has said they will continue and for me rightly so. I will get my vaccination, it's just a question of when. Most of the islands do seem to be getting priority for the vaccine over the mainland, I'm on the Peloponnese and I'm sure it will happen.
You are absolutely correct, it is a beautiful country but why would you say it has a low level of education?
As for bribery and corruption, this is also becoming a thing of the past. The net is closing in, people are getting caught on a regular basis and are facing very heavy fines or worse in getting long prison terms behind bars. But as with every rule there is the exception world over.

My father deliberately named me identically to his name and his father before him. This was so we could all use the same driving licence etc. Honest, in those days before driving tests and computers the licence had no source. Will not work today of course. Pity really

I think you could write anything , who would know, who know who your father was ,you could had been brought up in a children home , let's face it how many of us know who are really father are .
Is that guy you always called dad was your dad just because he drove a milk cart .

And also bank cheque payments could be filtered into juniors account as a tax fiddle

Another thing ,a lot of people are commentating on this thread do not liveaboard and have homes of bricks and mortar.
I have a yacht that cost the same as a villa with pool.
However the Aliens bureau here in Lavrio will not recognise me as living in Greece ,Same in Petrou Rali Athens .so its next to impossible to get the Amka for vaccination.
On Facebook there .lots said about how to get the temp one ..Not a lot about anyone getting one.

Regardless of the value of your boat, because this is immaterial to most on this site or the Greek system. Do you live on the boat 365 day a year. Do you have a Greek Tax Number, Do you have a Greek Mobile?
People are getting vaccinations on the Greek Temporary AMKA Numbers, slowly and spasmodically but people are getting them. If you wish to look through this site https://emvolio.gov.gr/pamka and see if there's anything can be applied to your criteria because there are ways around most problems.

I think the answer to all tho question is yes GG,
Bob been about in Greece for quite a lot of years , probably why he dragging his heels in leaving , as he really rather not leave ,
bit like me I rather had not given up on Greece we do miss a sailing season now and then, even if its just part of a season.
but there was no way I was going to get ripped off with the way they set their cruising tax chargers .
I'm a man of my word , I said three/four years I think I can't even remember its been so lone, if there interduce tho stupid charges I leave and won't come back till they reduce them and I won't.
A season cruising tax for us pays for a winter marina,
plus when there so many lovely places to sail in Europe why pay to be ripped off,
I would have to be a mug Or got more money then sense.

Do you miss the point purposely.
I live full time on my yacht for 3 years ,I have a Cosmote phone internet contract. Greek tax number from 2001 Poros .Greek motorbike on Aigena
I can't register with the Aliens bureau , because in their beaurcratic system I am a gypsy without a property . another thing , as I am fortunate to have a high income ,I do not really want to be a Greek citizen.

Tony ,I came in 1996 stop talking silly . Theres quislings everywhere. I often talk with sailors that suffered you in Ag Nikolaos Crete .with the marina politics
Do you live on a boat ?
So you've descended to insulting me already. That was quick! :ROFLMAO:

There are two kinds of people in the world; those who strive to make things better for everyone and who understand that they'll then get shot at for daring to stick their heads over the parapet, and there are those who contribute absolutely nothing and just moan all day about those who are trying to make a difference. I have little time for people who just sit back and moan, so if they 'suffered me' then I'm quite pleased. :)

And no, I no longer live on a boat.
