Fletcher speed boat and 33hp johnson

I have just bought this boat and engine off EBAY and picked it up ! i didnt thing anything of this until the other day But on the boat where the name is someone has tried to pick off and paint over the old name ! is this normal if you are selling the boat ? is there anyway that i can check this boat is ok ? it didnt cost me alot and to be honest it is not worth that much but i wanna make sure it ok and not stolen or anything !

It could be that the provious owner didn't like the boat's name.

Have a look on the Stolen Boats website for similar boats that have been reported stolen.

Have a look too, at your outboard engine. Has someone tampered with the serial number? If it has been ground out or altered, then there is a high probability that it has been stolen.
