Flashing overheating light Volvo 2002

The engine (1988 Volvo 2002) overheating light comes on occsionaly for a few minutes flashing regularly at about once per second, this happens when the engine is just started as well as when it is warm. Any ideas please.

Mine engines sounds off alarms, just as water starts to pump and when stats just open. Have been told have sensitive senders. Hope this is of help.
